A Visionary in Civil Engineering and Leadership

Born in the vibrant city of Bloemfontein on 10th October 1983, Tholang John Mosianedi embarked on an educational and professional journey that would not only shape his career but also leave a significant imprint on the civil engineering landscape of South Africa. His foundational years at Polokehong Primary School segued into a distinguished matriculation from Lekhulong Senior Secondary school in 2003, laying the groundwork for a future leader in civil engineering.

Educational Excellence: Tholang’s academic journey is marked by a series of commendable achievements. With a Metric Exemption, he was awarded a bursary by the Free State Department of Public Works, Roads, and Transport to pursue Civil Engineering at the Technikon Free State, now known as the Central University of Technology, Free State. His relentless pursuit of knowledge and excellence culminated in a National Diploma in Civil Engineering in 2007, a B-Tech in Civil Engineering in 2012, and a Master of Engineering: Civil in 2016. Additionally, Tholang augmented his technical prowess with a certificate in Management Development Programme (MDP) from the University of the Free State in 2016, preparing him for the leadership roles that lay ahead.

Professional Milestones: Tholang’s professional career commenced in 2006 with Ninham Shands Consulting Engineers (now Zutari), where he served as a diligent student. In 2008, his journey took him to the Department of Public Works, Roads, and Transport as a Technician, setting the stage for his eventual promotion to Chief Engineer in 2014. In this pivotal role, he was responsible for the Materials Laboratory and Pavement Design, alongside his duties as a Project Manager.

One of Tholang’s crowning achievements came with the Design and Management of the Thaba Nchu Public Transport Route. Implemented by the local community, this project not only won the Best EPWP project in the country but also set a precedent for job creation methodologies that are now being adopted nationwide.

In 2022, Tholang’s leadership and innovation were further recognized when the project won accolades for “The Best EPWP Methodologies” and for creating the most jobs for youth in the Province. His extensive experience as a Pavement Designer and Project Manager has been instrumental in the successful completion of numerous capital projects.

Leadership and Recognition: A testament to his expertise and trust within the engineering community, Tholang was appointed the Chairperson of the SARF Central Region Committee in March 2022. This role not only signifies the confidence his peers have in him but also reflects SARF’s recognition of his potential to drive positive change within the construction industry.

Registration and Motto: Tholang is currently registered with the Engineering Council of South Africa (ECSA) as a Professional Engineering Technologist, underscoring his commitment to upholding the highest standards of engineering practice. His motto, “Education is the only insurance policy that has got a virtual promise of paying out a lump sum of lifetime success,” encapsulates his belief in the transformative power of education and its pivotal role in achieving professional and personal milestones.

As Tholang John Mosianedi looks forward to the challenges and opportunities that lie ahead, his journey continues to inspire budding engineers and professionals. His dedication to his craft and his vision for the future of civil engineering in South Africa shine as beacons of excellence and innovation.
