SARF Director Profiles

Melanie Kemp Hofmeyr is the Chief Executive Officer of the Southern African Bitumen Association (SABITA) and a Professional Registered Engineer with the Engineering Council of South Africa.

She holds an MScEng from Stellenbosch University and has held senior leadership roles within the Western Cape Government: Department of Infrastructure, including Specialist Engineer in the Office of the Head of Department.

Her career spans strategic planning, programme delivery, pavement engineering, asset management, governance, disaster response, infrastructure resilience and institutional leadership. She has contributed to numerous national and international industry, technical and professional forums and has presented at conferences and industry events locally and internationally.

Melanie brings a strategic, systems-based and collaborative approach to leadership and is passionate about strengthening institutions, fostering industry partnerships, advancing technical excellence and developing people. As SARF President, she champions collaboration across the road ecosystem and the contribution every person makes towards safer, more resilient and sustainable transport infrastructure.

Simphiwe Nene is professionally registered with ECSA and holds a National Diploma and B-Tech degree from the Durban University of Technology, as well as a BSc Honours in Applied Science: Transportation Planning from the University of Pretoria.

He has 15 years of industry experience focusing on transportation, road safety, pavement engineering and road rehabilitation. He serves as the Deputy President of the South African Road Federation and is the Chairperson of the COTO Road Materials Committee Materials Testing Sub-committee.

He received the 2025 National Batho Pele Public Sector Innovation Gold Award for Best Implemented Project of the Year and is responsible for mentorship, contract administration, road rehabilitation support, research and development.

Mirriam Ramoba (Mosia) is a professional engineer registered with the Engineering Council of South Africa (ECSA) and a leader in the transportation engineering industry. Her academic achievements include a BSc in Civil Engineering from the University of Cape Town and a postgraduate Honours degree in Transportation Engineering from the University of Pretoria, specialising in Pavement Engineering.

Her career took a significant leap in 2007 when she participated in an international exchange programme led by former Deputy President of South Africa Phumzile Mlambo-Ngcuka. Through the programme, she had an opportunity to work on flood-prevention projects at Royal Haskoning in the United Kingdom.

Her current roles as Past President of the South African Road Federation (SARF) and Provincial Head at SANRAL for the North West Province highlight her leadership in road infrastructure. She has 24 years of experience spanning consulting and road-authority perspectives.

Beyond her professional roles, Mirriam is a committed advocate for youth empowerment and gender equality in engineering. Her earlier presidency of the CESA Young Professionals Forum and participation in an international committee of the World Road Association (PIARC) from 2016 to 2019 underscore her dedication to inspiring the next generation.
