Nasiphi Ntengo

SARF Treasure

Champion of Civil Engineering Excellence and Societal Progress

Nasiphi Ntengo’s journey in civil engineering is a testament to her unwavering dedication and exceptional skill. Graduating with a BSc in Civil Engineering from the esteemed University of the Witwatersrand in 2016, she embarked on a professional path that has not only shaped her career but also left a significant imprint on the engineering landscape of South Africa.

Early Career and Professional Development: Nasiphi began her career with the KZN Department of Transport in 2017, where she embraced the challenges and opportunities of working in the bridge office as a candidate engineer. Her eagerness to expand her knowledge and skills led her to the private sector, where she was seconded to various consulting firms. This period of secondment was instrumental in her development, providing her with invaluable experience in geometric, structural, and pavement design. Her tenure concluded at SANRAL TEA, from which she returned to the Department, bringing with her a wealth of knowledge and enhanced expertise.

Professional Recognition and Leadership: In 2022, Nasiphi achieved a significant milestone by obtaining her professional engineering registration from the Engineering Council of South Africa (ECSA). This accomplishment underscored her commitment to excellence and adherence to the highest industry standards. Later that year, she stepped into the role of Production Engineer within the Mentorship and Training division, and by November 2023, she was appointed Chief Engineer: Infrastructure Management Systems. In these capacities, Nasiphi has demonstrated exceptional leadership, guiding her teams toward innovative solutions and efficient practices.

Academic and Industry Contributions: Beyond her professional achievements, Nasiphi’s passion for engineering extends to its impact on society and the nurturing of future talent. She actively contributes to both academia and industry initiatives, serving on the advisory board of the University of KwaZulu-Natal (UKZN), participating as an external examiner for academic assessments, and taking on the role of SARF Honourary Treasurer for the financial year 2023/2024. These roles reflect her dedication to advancing the field of civil engineering and supporting the next generation of engineers.

Vision and Legacy: Driven by a profound sense of purpose, Nasiphi Ntengo continues to leverage her expertise to effect positive change within the realm of civil engineering. Her journey is marked by a relentless pursuit of excellence, a deep commitment to societal well-being, and an enduring passion for mentorship. As she moves forward, Nasiphi’s contributions are poised to leave a lasting legacy, inspiring both current and future engineers to strive for greatness and make meaningful contributions to society.
